Set output format in Settings / Format...

File / Load...  "Insertion strategy"" of "Create new resources only"
causes loaded files to show up in Resources / Media.

File / Render.  Change pulldown to "Insert nothing".
Otherwise the generated render will be reloaded back into project.

The time ticks show half a second like 3:05 instead of 3.5.

Output type of .ogv seems to work ok directly (and is very small), but
the timings get screwed when convert from this .ogv to .flv.
Therefore, export audio and video separately, using default settings for
the file formats Mpeg video and Mpeg audio, even though it takes ups
tons more disk space (3.5G vs. 30M).


SCREEN CAPTURE
Recording
    Video bitrate 430,000
    Audio Samplerate must be 44100 for .ogv.
    Video framerate 10
Format
    Audio Samplerate 44100 (since Audacity will set it to 44100 anyways).
    Video frame rate of 29.97, or can't render to Mpeg video.
Render the audio to either .ogg or .mp3.  .ogg more efficient.
Render the video ONLY to .ogv w/ bitrate 430,000.
All tracks render, regardless of the Arm state.  I think the Speaker icon
 should do it.


Cinelerra sometimes won't add clips to tracks where you want them.
Either it won't add to the track you want, or it wants to left-justify
it before any blank space.  To add clips right where you want them, choose
Cut&Paste mode on and select the insertion point on the track.  Disarm
all other tracks.  Right-click on the resource and select Paste.  It'll
be added right at your insertion point.

Some playback and render settings are not set in Settings / Preferences, but
under Settings / Format.
To record and play/render at same size, to prevent distortion, set sizes in
Settings / Preferences Recording tab AND Settings / Format.
If setting width and height in Settings / Format, enable "auto" aspect ratio.
(?Try same for FPS and Audio Sample Rate?)

Cinelerra vid cap requires "gstreamer bad" RPM (which requires many other rpms).

Viewer window just does not work.  Use Compositor window for playback instead.
Compositor window does show the right aspect ratio, but you may need to resize
the window frame.

QUIRKS
    Though the Add Track functions are under the Audio and Video pulldowns,
     Delete tracks is in the Tracks pulldown.

To populate tracks from external files.
    Create empty target tracks in main window with Audio / Add Track or
     Video / Add Track.
    Open up the Resources window and click & drag the file onto the target
     track.

Playback
    The plat button for the track must be on before you hit the main play btn.
    There is some memory leak or something that makes playback run dog slow if
     you try it after recording.  WORKAROUND:  Restart Cinelerra after
     recording.

VIDCAP REVISITED
Try audio sample rates of 22050 and video FR of 29.97
I read that Flash prefers one of the frame rates 6, 12, 24.
 (But CS3 docs mention 30 and 21 fps).

Somebody on web recommends 38400 bitrate but ffmpeg chokes on that!
Skip the ffmpeg "-r" switch to keep the original frame rate.

    344 k/s at 30 FR
    216 k/s at 12 FR

ROUGH ESTIMATE:
    13 minute midsize video =
    13 min/s * 60 s * 150 k/s = 117 MB
    (My old method with 640x480 made a 85 MB file for 13 min.)
Try reducing the size during the conversion to flv. with: -s 360x360

MIXER
    Need Master and Front on in order to hear in any way
    Headphone Mute button works
    No muter works specifically on the Line out
    The mic mute button and slider effect ONLY HEARING what is coming in from
    the mic line, not what would be recorded.
    Basically, you always want mic muted unless you are recording, otherwise
    you will hear amplified background noise.

Some AVIs need to have additional stuff written for them or you will get error
"new_vcodec: couldn't find codec for "FMP4".".  Fix:
    mencoder 5*.avi -oac copy -ovc copy -ffourcc DIVX -o mencd.avi
