As of 2013-08-23 they have a bug allocating IPV6 addresses (at least along with brand new VMs).

The VM creation choice "manage the OS kernel" chooses between
    "I will manage..." ON == Hypervised VM.  More control.
    "I will manage..." OFF == Container on hardware == CT.  Faster performance.
Going with a CT for now, for max performance.  Will see if it is elastic enough.

The main name setting is NOT the real hostname, it is just a cloud identifier.
Custom hostname setting is the real hostname.

Original Yum config
As usual, only base, extras, updates enabled.
No priorities in place.
yum.repos.d files.  Don't use and all disabled other than:
    CentOS-Media.repo:  For repos on optical media.  Disabled here.
    CentOS-Base.repo:  3 defaults + disabled centosplus and contrib.

Since control panel only shows server as down if shut down with control panel, therefore you should probably shut down using control panel.
I see that it does an at least partially elegant shutdown (according to /var/log/messages).
